Lunch Note
Privacy policy
Effective September 1, 2026
Lunch Note is intended only for adult parents and guardians. It is not designed for use by children. It does not require an account. The website has no ads. The Android app may show one Google-served banner ad and offers a one-time ad-free purchase.
Information saved on your device
Lunch Note can remember child display names, an optional bus route, lunch choices and short card notes, which children are bringing lunch on a selected day, and appearance and newsletter-reminder preferences.
This family information stays in private storage on the current device. Lunch Note does not upload it, synchronize it, sell it, or send it to Google's advertising or billing services. The Android app excludes its private data from cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
You can remove family information with Clear family data in the app. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage also removes it. Because there is no account or synchronization, information may need to be entered again after changing devices.
Current school information
The app contacts Lunch Note's HTTPS service to retrieve public lunch menus, school events, weather, breakfast, bus-status summaries, alerts, and source-status information. Saved family information is not included in those requests.
Like any internet service, the hosting provider necessarily processes an IP address and ordinary request metadata to deliver and protect the service. Lunch Note does not add analytics identifiers, user profiles, or third-party monitoring to those requests.
Public information comes from school, school-district, National Weather Service, and Open-Meteo sources. Opening an official-source link leaves Lunch Note and is governed by that site's privacy practices.
Android advertising and privacy choices
The Android app uses Google Mobile Ads to display one banner near the bottom of the planner. Google says this SDK automatically collects and shares an IP address, which can estimate general location; app and ad interactions such as launches, taps, and views; diagnostics such as launch time, hang rate, and energy use; and device or account identifiers such as the advertising ID and app set ID. Google uses this data for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention and encrypts it in transit. Lunch Note disables Google's optional publisher first-party identifier and does not send child names, bus routes, lunch choices, or card notes to the ad service.
Before requesting an ad, the Android app asks Google's consent service whether a message or privacy choice is required in your region. When Google requires a privacy-options entry point, Manage ad privacy choices appears with the in-app privacy controls. Development copies use Google's test ads; a Google test ad is not a paid production ad.
Ad-free purchase
The Android app offers a one-time Remove ads product through Google Play. Google Play processes the Google account, payment method, and purchase transaction under Google's privacy practices. Lunch Note receives the product identifier, purchase status, and purchase token needed to grant or restore the ad-free unlock; it does not receive payment-card details.
When Google Play confirms the purchase, Lunch Note hides the banner on that device and can restore the unlock from the purchasing Google account. The planned United States price is $2.99, but the price shown by Google Play at purchase time is authoritative.
Google Play reviewers can use the labeled review-access control in the Play build to inspect the ad-free presentation without making a purchase. A reusable code supplied privately to Google is checked only on the device, is not transmitted, and is not a Lunch Note or Google account. Review access is stored only on that installation, is separate from purchase ownership, and can be cleared in the app.
Children
Lunch Note is an adult-operated tool for parents and guardians, not an online service directed to children or one that children should operate. It does not ask children to create accounts. Child display names and bus routes remain on the device and are not collected by Lunch Note's service.
Security and retention
Device-local information is protected by the operating system's app sandbox and the device's security controls. The Android app uses Internet and network-state access for current public information, ads, consent, and Google Play purchase status. Google's libraries add billing, advertising-ID, ad-services, wake-lock, and foreground-service permissions to support those functions. Lunch Note does not request location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access.
Lunch Note cannot retrieve device-local family information because it never receives it. The service may retain the latest validated public-source snapshots and their original timestamps. If a newer source check fails, Lunch Note may continue showing an older snapshot with a clear age and staleness warning instead of discarding it. These snapshots contain public school, menu, event, weather, bus, alert, or newsletter-source information—not device-local family information.
